The Cretan Olive Oil

Mylopotamos olive oil is one of the two best olive oils of Crete, which were awarded the second prize of the Mario Solinas International Council of Olive Oil Producers. This excellent oil is cultivated in the area of Mylopotamos, south of the town of Rethιmnon.

The European Union designated the region as area of Appellation of Origin, thus recognizing the high quality of the olive oil produced there. The oil is extracted from the fruit of the olive tree variety called “Koroneiko”, it is particularly light and clean, with a distinctive aroma and probably the best oil to be used as dressing. The extra virgin olive oil is extracted by means of slow and cold pressing, according to the mechanical specifications and is subject to strict quality examination. Due to this procedure of production it maintains its full taste and flavour, as well as its excellent nourishing properties.

This excellent olive oil of organic cultivation has a natural, genuine taste, and a delicate, fruity aroma. Ideal with salads and all sorts of dishes, it tops the flavour of the Cretan cuisine. The fruit, which are taken for the production of this oil, exclusively derive from organic cultivation that is, no chemical or synthetic components have been used according to the regulations. The label “produce of organic cultivation” has been certified by a special organization, which is recognized by the European Community. It refers to an entirely natural product and guarantees excellent taste, which the most demanding palate will appreciate.

This extra virgin olive oil shows an exceptionally low level of acidity (maximum 0,4%) and is the characteristic ingredient of the Cretan diet. It is classified as high quality oil.
